Leasedrive launches Carbon:Manager to
assist clients towards running a ‘greener’ fleet
19 September 2006
The Leasedrive Group, the largest independent privately-owned
vehicle management group in the UK, has teamed up with leading
climate change business The CarbonNeutral Company to launch Carbon:Manager,
allowing company car drivers to offset their C02 emissions to become
CarbonNeutral drivers.
Commercial director, Roddy Graham said: “The issue of climate
change is becoming increasingly critical and companies are looking
for ways to significantly reduce their C02 emissions as part of
their Corporate Social Responsibility. The Carbon:Manager programme
is a simple, effective first step towards running a greener fleet.
Fully integrated within Drive:Manager, our online total vehicle
management system, Carbon:Manager allows our clients to measure
and reduce to ‘net zero’ the amount of C02 emissions associated
with their fleet. It has been successfully tried and tested by
one of our major blue chip clients.”
Carbon:Manager is a low-cost green option for employers, which
is easy to implement. It can form part of a corporate CSR programme
and will produce reports allowing management to monitor progress.
For company car drivers, Carbon:Manager offers them the ‘feel-good’ factor
of having taken positive action to help the environment through
low monthly payments. These are calculated on a ‘per tonne’ basis
(i.e. for every one tonne of C02 a vehicle produces, the company
and/or driver pays for one tonne of C02 to be saved through a CarbonNeutral
project throughout the world). The cost varies between £3 and £8
per month depending on the vehicle type and estimated annual mileage.
The sign-up process is simple to complete and participating
drivers receive a CarbonNeutral e-presentation containing a personalised
CarbonNeutral certificate and details of their chosen project.
Vehicle fleets running on fossil fuels are a major contributor
of C02 emissions, producing in general up to 20 per cent of a company’s
total C02 output. Each company car produces on average its own
weight in C02 per year.
Examples of offset projects include technology transfers (e.g. replacement
of fossil fuel-based energy with solar energy) and forestry projects (where
trees soak up C02 directly into the atmosphere).
