Company car drivers strongly opposed to congestion charging
reveals Leasedrive survey
6 June 2006
A survey on company car drivers’ attitudes by the Leasedrive
Group, the largest independent privately-owned vehicle management
group in the UK, reveals they are strongly opposed to congestion
charging but are more in favour of replacing the existing road
tax by a ‘pay-as-you go’ charge. The survey showed that 84.8 per
cent are against congestion charge schemes being extended to all
major towns and cities. However, 54.3 per cent were in favour of ‘pay-as-you-go’ mileage
charge schemes.
Commercial director, Roddy Graham said: “Company car drivers
feel they are being penalised enough through ever rising parking
charges. They are very against congestion charging. However, a
majority see the rationale behind proposed ‘pay-as-you-go’ charging.
This is an interesting finding given that, while their companies
will be responsible for business mileage, company car drivers will
need to pay for their own private mileage. Once again, the company
car driver is showing his green credentials!”
